Frost Borneo Optometrists and Opticians is a totally independent optical practice and is jointly owned by Neil Frost and Catalina Borneo. Neil joined the practice, then known as Brian Gegg Opticians, in 1983 and Catalina in 1991. Brian Gegg retired in 1995 and the practice continued under the name of Frost Borneo and Gegg until 2007. We are proud to continue and evolve an optical practice that has been serving its patients eyecare and eyewear needs in Henley on Thames since the 1860’s from our central Hart Street location.
The Frost Borneo Optometrists and Opticians website was launched in September 2007 along with our new logo and colour scheme, following a period where we have extensively restored and renovated our Grade II listed building.
This renovation project allowed us to expand from two to three consulting rooms for eye examinations and provide a new separate dedicated consulting room for our Optomap® eye examinations. Additionally, we have equipped two consulting rooms with the latest technology in order to offer Orthokeratology to suitable patients (Ortho K). Both Neil Frost and Catalina Borneo are fully qualified in this specialised treatment that allows vision to be corrected while you sleep utilising custom made contact lenses worn only at night.
Our building has a long history; it occupies a medieval burgage plot at the retail heart of the town and has seen many building phases. The ‘current’ early 18th century shop façade and other 18th and 19th century additions hides an earlier building built no later than the 17th century, the central parts are probably much older which may preserve medieval timbers. The building at 4 Hart street has served Henley as on opticians since mid 1800’s, Barnard Jeweller & Opticians was well established in the 1870’s this link continued until as recently as 2005 when we purchased our building from the estate of the late Mrs M Barnard allowing us to restore and develop the practice for the future.
